Adventures in southern Africa
Day 1: Depart early from Johannesburg for Kimberley, the diamond capital of the world. In the afternoon, visit the open-air mining museum and the famous 'Big Hole'- the remains of open cast mining. Dinner and overnight in Kimberley. (DB)
Day 2 to 4: South Africa’s second largest national park , Kgalagadi, has recently become a Transfrontier 'peace' park incorporating neighbouring parks in Botswana. For the next three days we will explore the park, overnighting at Twee Rivieren and Nossob rest camps. The vast diversity of Africa's largest predators are normally only seen in films, but in the Kalahari, you can enjoy this spectacle in the flesh. (DB)
Day 5: We depart the park traversing the harsh sun-baked countryside as we head for the Augrabies Falls National Park. Here the mighty Orange River is at its most impressive as it thunders its way through a ravine and into a pool, walled by sheer granite. These falls derived their name from the bushman word meaning 'place of great noise'. (DB)
Day 6: Today we will join the staff of the park on a day excursion tracking down the black rhino that have survived so well in this area. (DB)
Day 7: After breakfast we will depart for Kuruman stopping at Wonderwerk Cave where we will observe bushman paintings that have been positively identified as being some 10 000 years old. An overnight stay at a hotel. (DB)
Day 8: Tour of the historic Moffat's Mission Museum and the beautiful oasis known as The Eye of Kuruman, where forests of majestic Camelthorn Trees stand tall, silhouetted against the horizon of the Kalahari. At midday we will start our drive back to Upington, where you will link up with your flight to your next destination as your adventures in southern Africa comes to a close . (B)
