Meander at your own pace along one of the most scenic drives in the world, the Cape Garden Route. Start in Port Elizabeth and travel along the coast all the way to Cape Town. Drive through the Tsitsikama Forest, visit picturesque seaside towns like Knysna, Wilderness and Plettenberg Bay and take a short inland detour to the eclectic town of Oudshoorn, ostrich capital of the world.
Day 1: Fly into Port Elizabeth airport and collect your hire car, reserved in the category of your choice. Drive to Admirals Lodge or similar, in the upmarket suburb of Summerstrand. Spend the day relaxing at one of Port Elizabeth’s golden beaches or try out the Humewood golf course, one of the most challenging link courses in the world. Enjoy an evening stroll along the beach front promenade and dine at one of the many restaurants at the Boardwalk Casino and Entertainment Complex.
Day 2: Drive along the Garden Route stopping in at scenic attractions along the way. Visit Tsitsikamma National Park and enjoy a short walk through the indigenous forest to Storm’s River Bridge, which is suspended just 7 metres above the entrance to the churning Indian Ocean. Bloukrans Bridge, also in this area, is both the highest bridge and the highest bungee jumping location in the world. Visit the town of Plettenberg Bay, known for its expansive white, sandy beaches and luxury mansions dotted along the hillsides. Continue into Knysna, your base for the next two nights, where you will be accommodated at Kanonkop Guest House or similar.
Day 3: Spend the day exploring beautiful Knysna and its surrounds. Take a boat trip across the lagoon towards the famous heads where the ocean meets the lagoon. Enjoy a lunch of sparkling wine and fresh oysters which are cultivated in this region. Explore the forests or spend time at one of the many beaches in the area.
Day 4: Continue along the Garden Route through Wilderness and over the Outeniqua mountains to Oudtshoorn. Visit the Cango Caves and stop in at an ostrich farm before continuing to La Plume Guest House or similar for the evening.
Day 5: From Oudshoorn drive the final section of the Garden Route towards Cape Town. Choose between the direct route along the N2 Highway or the more sedately paced route 62 which meanders through small inland Cape Villages.
