The Blue Train

Running continuously since 1946, the Blue Train has firmly established itself as one of the great train journeys of the world. The luxurious furnishings and personalised service that the train offers is comparable to a stay at any of the world’s finest hotels. The train travels between Johannesburg and Cape Town on a 27 hour journey of 1600 kilometres (994 miles) through some of the most diverse and spectacular scenery in Southern Africa.

All meals are freshly prepared in a state-of-the-art kitchen by executive chefs. Meals are served in the beautiful wood-panelled dining car on a service of the finest bone-china and silver. Carefully selected South African wines, served in cut-crystal glasses, are chosen to complement the gourmet cuisine. High tea is served each afternoon in the main lounge and those seeking a peaceful place to enjoy an after-dinner cognac or cigar can retire to the comfort of the club lounge.

By day each private ensuite cabin offers the comfort of a generous lounge chair appointed to take advantage of the beautiful landscape views outside the window. The cabins also include a writing desk, telephone, individually controlled air-conditioning, a safe and a TV monitor offering on board movie and music channels. At night the cabins are converted into subtly lit bedrooms fitted with fine cotton linen and comforting duvets.
