De Wildt Cheetah Breeding Station (DA 20)
The breeding station was established in 1971 with the purpose of saving this and other endangered species. A lecture is given on arrival. Learn more about the King cheetah, followed by a full tour of the breeding station. Return to your hotel. Tuesday/Thursday, Saturday/Sunday only.
Cradle of Humankind (DA 21)
This half day tour entails a visit to the 2200 million year old Sterkfontein caves. Descend 40m into the cave, described as one of the most beautiful in South Africa. This was where the remains of early hominids were discovered, particularly the 2.15 million year old skull of ‘Mrs Ples’, excavated by Dr Robert Broom and John T Robinson in April 1947. Visit Maropeng, where you can enjoy multi-media and special effects presentations on the origins of mankind, and even take a boat ride on an underground lake.
